Who Are We To Condemn Russia?
How can Americans condemn Russia for it’s anti-gay laws, including a law that prohibits “gay propaganda,” when 9 of our states have laws on the books that are similar?
Alabama, Arizona, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Utah all have similar “no promo homo” laws that prohibit educators from discussing homosexuality in a positive way, or in some cases, discussing homosexuality at all.
States that prohibit enumerator are those that don’t allow local school districts from enacting policies that prevent bullying. And in recent years, Mississippi and Tennessee have tried to pass so called, “don’t say gay” laws that would further prohibit any discussion of homosexuality in schools.
North Carolina doesn’t explicitly prohibit the discussion of homosexuality, but implies that gay sex is inherently unhealthy. The law states “that a mutually faithful monogamous heterosexual relationship in the context of marriage is the best lifelong means of avoiding sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS.”
