We started making legal documents online for the LGBT community in December 1999 and we’ve been at it ever since. Back then, no state recognized any gay or lesbian relationship status and we wanted to do something to try to help individuals and families who were suffering the loss of their homes, children, financial assets and dignity.
Over the years we’ve learned what legal documents are required to create legal rights and protections for LGBT individuals, couples and families – even those who live in states with no laws recognizing same-sex relationships.
To make it as easy as possible for everyone – regardless of their income – to get the vital legal protections they need, we developed the following 4 step document preparation process:
1Figure out what you need. If you’re not sure what legal documents you need to protect your relationship and rights, we’ve designed a brief survey to help you do just that. Click here to figure out what you need.
2Complete a questionnaire. Once you know which document package is right for you, go to the top menu, and hover your mouse over the “Place an Order” link. A drop-down list will appear and you can click on the one that best suits your needs. There are also buttons at the bottom of this page with links to each document package questionnaire. The links open a secure questionnaire form associated with the package that you’ve chosen. Answer the questions and submit the questionnaire. It’s that easy!
3Review your drafts. After you submit your completed questionnaire, we’ll make drafts of your documents using the information you provided in your answers and we guarantee your drafts will comply with your state’s laws. When we are finished drawing up your drafts, we’ll send them to you to review. You’ll then set up a phone conference with our legal professional who will explain – in plain English - what each document is and how it functions to protect you and your loved ones.
4Get & sign your documents. As soon as you are satisfied that you understand your documents and that they reflect your wishes, we’ll send your final package – by snail mail or email – including color-coded, detailed instructions for signing, funding, copying, distributing and filing them. And we will continue to be available to answer your questions as needed.
We also put together 6 basic legal document packages – specific to your state’s laws – designed to broadly fit a variety of circumstances and family types.
When you fill out a questionnaire form to order a specific package from Rainbow Law, we use your personal information to tailor your documents so they function to protect and empower you, your family and other loved ones.
After we make first drafts of your documents, we In the end, the final package you receive will be custom-made for you.

If you need a document that is not generally included in our package, we’ll draw up that document for you. The same is true for documents automatically included in our packages – if you don’t need or want a particular document, we’ll take it out.
