Mississippi WLOX-TV anchor Dave Elliott is tired of LGBT news coverage and thinks gays should all go on a “gaycation.”

He made the comment in a Facebook post that went public after a Twitter user took a screen cap and tweeted it to the WLOX Friday.

First Elliot stated that he is supportive of the gay community (drum roll… here it comes), then he added, “But it seems like they’ve been in the news too much lately. Maybe they should take a short break. Go on gaycation just for the weekend.”

WLOX quickly distanced itself from Elliott’s comments, posting on its Facebook page, “We are not happy at all with [Elliott’s] post or any imagined ‘free publicity.'” The station further stated its commitment “to covering news that happens in our community, and issues important to our viewers — that includes the LGBT community.”

Elliot did apology saying, “I recently made an insensitive and unprofessional Facebook post regarding the LGBT community. I did not choose my words wisely and I sincerely apologize to anyone who was offended by it.”

The post has since been deleted.
