Georgia LGBT Voters, Meet The Democratic Senate Candidates
Branko Radulovack, an Atlanta psychiatrist is running as a Democrat for Georgia’s open Senate seat being vacated by Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss. When asked, Dr. Rad didn’t mince words when it comes to same-sex marriage in an interview with Atlanta Progressive News.
Asked if he supports same-sex marriage, he answered: “As a psychiatrist, I believe sexual orientation is a strong genetic component rather than a simple choice. And, as a result, I see no basis for judging or discriminating against his or her to their sexual orientation. I am a Christian, and as a Christian, I believe in the separation of church and state.” Adding, “I acknowledge every church’s right to accept or deny a government-authorized marriage as a sacrament. But I also agree with Pope Francis who, when asked recently about homosexuality, responded, “Who am I to judge?”
The underdog candidate is running against Michelle Nunn, the leading Democrat in the race (and daughter of former Sen. Sam Nunn), and former state Sen. Steen Miles.
The Democratic Party in Georgia and the corporate media are investing most of their energy and attention in Nunn, who has emerged as a centrist or Republican-lite candidate.
According to Atlanta Progressive News, Nunn is opposed to same-sex marriage, opposed to timely implementation of the Affordable Care Act, and supported an invasion in Syria, after assuming, according to sources, that some of her Republican colleagues would vote the same.
Sen. Miles’s experience with progressive issues dates back to the 1970’s, when she was one of four reporters who exposed some Illinois dairy farmers for selling sour milk to consumers. When asked about same-sex marriage, she answered, “No government should dictate who they spend their lives with and how. When you have people that are dedicated to each other and their families, that is the best you can ask for. Who could begrudge my gay friends for their attempt at a family?”
Branko Radulovackm, Michelle Nunn and Sen. Steen Miles face of in a May 20th primary.
