Even Ralph Reed Has Given Up On A Gay Marriage Ban
Speaking last week to the crowd at Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Ralph Reed, head of the Christian conservative Faith and Freedom Coalition, said that the federal marriage amendment that would ban gay marriage in the U.S. Constitution is a dead issue for GOP presidential candidates.
He also said that Attorney General Eric Holder should be removed from office for advising state attorneys general that they do not have to defend state bans on gay marriage. He said that advise was “ an impeachable offense,” and that “it’s time for Eric Holder to go.”
Included in his prepared speech he said that “left-wing bullies” forced Gov. Jan Brewer to veto an anti-gay bill in Arizona and he criticized the Obama administration for fomenting a “war on religion.”
Although last summer, after the groundbreaking Supreme Court ruling, he said the decision “was a setback,” and he cautioned Democrats and the gay-rights movement against excessive celebration, he now concedes that continuing to pursue a federal marriage amendment would be “trying to put the genie back in the bottle.”
Amen.
