The Get all Your Ducks in a Row Campaign

An Online Service For The LGBT Community --- It’s Just Ducky!

By Carrie & Elisia Ross-Stone

Buffalo, NY -- January, 2003

Home of the Get All Your Ducks In A Row campaign, GAYducks.org is designed as a simple resource and referral site where gays and lesbians can easily access groups and organizations that provide the following:

  • Information about laws and legislation affecting the LGBT community
  • Voting records and contact information for local, state and national politicians and candidates
  • Information about how gay and lesbian partners can protect their relationships and rights
  • A Lawyer referral service
  • Suggestions about how individuals can work to change the system
  • Sample letter to send to elected officials
  • Links to local and national LGBT organizations

Why the name "GAYducks?"

When we decided to launch a national campaign to educate and activate the LGBT community, we knew it was important that we make a noticeable first impression.

Most folks know the phrase "get all your ducks in a row" refers to getting your affairs in order. Since rainbow colors are symbolic for all things gay and lesbian, we created a logo of cute little rainbow ducks to facilitate a conversation about the otherwise dry and intimidating topic of estate and relationship planning.

Only later did we notice that the first letters in the first three words spell out GAY, so we called the web site GAYducks.org. Because the logo is fun and the name unique, we think it will be easy to remember.

Who are "we?"

We are Carrie Ross-Stone, JD & Elisia Ross-Stone, RN, life partners committed to educating the LGBT community about empowering themselves and protecting their relationships. For the last three years, we have been working together to bring estate planning information to the LGBT community in our workshops and on RainbowLaw.com, an estate planning information web site.

To publicize GAYducks.org and the Get All Your Ducks In A Row campaign, we are taking the show on the road!

Beginning on May 1st, 2004, we will embark again on our second annual coast to coast bicycle ride from San Francisco to Rehoboth Beach, DE. We are scheduled to speak at various gay and lesbian community centers along the way. For the duration of the ride (about 3 months), we will post weekly updates on GAYducks.org. We hope the ride will become a coast to coast Rainbow Parade when others join us on their bikes, cars and RV’s, as we ride through their cities and towns.
